The Easiest Way to Improve Your Mental Health

Your mental health is one of the most important things to take care of in life. Without good mental health, your life can suffer and you may not be living up to your full potential. It is important to look after yourself this way to make life that little bit easier for yourself and enjoy life a little more. There are a few different things you can do every day to improve your mental health. One of the most important things to do is exercise.

Now I know if you’re not feeling the best right now, and your mood is a little bit low. It’s probably the last thing you want to be doing right now. But getting out in nature and moving your body has been proven to increase your mood almost instantly and help you do everyday tasks better. Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous if you don’t want it to be. A gentle walk can work wonders too. You don’t have to suffer to get results; just by being a little bit out of breath can work wonders. If you are really busy, just taking 15 minutes out of your day can help improve your mood. Any exercise is better than none.

If you need to start small, that’s fine. Everyone starts somewhere. If you don’t enjoy walking, you can choose another form of exercise like cycling, playing tennis or playing with your dog. One of my personal favourites is surfing. I can spend hours on end in the sea, and it doesn’t bother me because I enjoy it.

I know it can be hard to motivate ourselves sometimes, when things get overwhelming. But the benefits once you are exercising are worth it.

One of the reasons for this is that your body releases feel good endorphins that instantly make you feel happier. These are powerful chemicals that get released from your brain that make you feel good.

Secondly, being out in nature helps you be more in the moment as you can concentrate on the walk and scenery around you. The sights, smells and noises can help you be present, enjoy the moment and forget about any worries.

Exercise can also help relive anxiety symptoms. When you are anxious, it almost feels like something needs to be released out of your body and the energy needs to go somewhere else. Exercise is the perfect way to release any anxious energy. Notice the sensations you feel around you when you walk, and it can calm your mind and you will be less likely thinking about other things in your life.

Sometimes, when you feel stressed and you have a lot of worry on your head. It can be hard to get out of it. Exercise will help as it will break the cycle and encourage peace of mind. Studies have suggested that 90 percent of illnesses are made by stress. You can literally sit here right now and worry yourself so much that you make yourself ill.

You can move no matter what location you are in. You can walk in and around your house, you can take a few minutes walk at work every now and then, you can even bring a close friend along for a scenic walk too.

Do you have a favourite exercise? Let me know in the comments.
