Why You Should Love Yourself Before You Get Into A Relationship




Mental health has been a big headline in the news recently and for good reason. It’s so important, and should be a priority in your life. It’s good that you love your family, friends and even your partner. It’s also good to occasionally put others needs before your own, but what’s the point in doing so if you aren’t putting your needs as a priority as well. To be the best friend, partner or family member, you need to be in a good mind state too. You need to make sure you are looking after your mental health.





This means really listening to your body, knowing when you need a break, knowing when you need a time out, also knowing when you need support too. People have become more aware of how Mental Health affects people these days, and how important it is. If you want to achieve things and be in a good mind state, make sure your mental health is of high importance or it will hold you back. It will create a false shadow of doubt in your head and prevent you from being the best version of you. Another way of doing this, is to look at the people around you. Are they positive? Do they pick you up when you’re down? Do they make you feel good after being around them? Your environment plays a huge part in who you are as a person and how you feel about yourself. The saying goes that you are a mixture of your 5 closest friends, so be sure to have good ones.





Don’t be disheartened or discouraged from reading this, and definitely don’t doubt yourself. Everyone experiences bad times in their life, it’s just the way life goes unfortunately, and you have to take the bad with the good. So don’t worry if you lack a little bit of self-love, that’s not a problem, but it’s important you try to change that and love yourself for all that you are. A lot of people try and search for a partner to make them feel whole, but that doesn’t work for a few reasons. Firstly, if you 100% depend on someone else to fulfill you, there’s a high chance that person will get tired of constantly trying to make you feel good, and may eventually get tired of it. Imagine the scenario the other way round where someone depended on you to constantly make the feel good all day every day, you would get tired of it. So before you love someone else, be sure that you love yourself first.





A common way to love yourself is to do something that makes you feel good, for example, exercise releases feel good hormones, you may be thinking that’s the last thing you want to do right now, but trust me, afterwards you will feel better about yourself. Other ways to love yourself is to take care of yourself; I know it sounds simple, but looking after your personal hygiene and making a bit of an effort makes you feel more put together and better about yourself. Lastly, if you haven’t already got one, get a hobby that you enjoy and that makes you feel fulfilled. For example, if you love netball, find a netball team in your area and go. Find something you enjoy doing and go for it.
